Welcome to Spring 2025! We hope you’ve had a restful winter break and are feeling ready to kick off another exciting academic term. As always, we at the TLC are here to support you as you work to prepare quality course sites and materials for your students, and we’d like to take a moment to remind you of some guides for the tools you might be using to bring everything together during these last few days before classes begin:
- How to Copy Course Components
- Looking to bring your materials from last semester or last year into the new site to polish up? D2L has a built-in feature to transfer as much of your course site as you’d like, from gradebook settings to announcements, into another.
- How to Request a Development Shell
- If you’d like an empty course site to try out some new options or start putting together an upcoming course, you can request a development shell from our D2L Services team.
- D2L Essentials: Quizzes and Gradebook
- D2L can be a great way to manage assessments and grades. If you’re looking to try something new or double-check your settings, these guides can help you make sure you’re on the right path.
- How to Add Participants to a D2L Course
- Interested in sharing your materials with a colleague? You can add them to your course site as a Faculty Guest to allow them to view and copy course content. If you’re looking to give a tutor or GA access to a course, reach out to D2L Services for support.
- How to Set Up Group Discussions
- Discussion boards can be a great way to build a sense of community in a fully online class or keep communication flowing in blended courses. For group assignments, you can set up those forums to give each group a private space to share materials and talk through their plans.
- Panopto Essentials
- Video is a great medium for sharing information, but creating and editing videos yourself can be daunting. Our IS&T team has put together a host of guides on a variety of tasks that can be done using Panopto, our video platform at WCU, from signing in to editing captions.
